Abstract
Hat etwa french bashing, jene wohlbekannte Vorliebe britischer Medien, auf Deutschland übergegriffen ? Die Auswertung von rund 250 Artikeln aus der Tages- und Wochenpresse zwischen 2008 und 2015 lässt auf jeden Fall den Schluss zu, dass dieser Eindruck nichts mit selektiver Wahrnehmung zu tun hat. Eine dem Untergang geweihte Wirtschaft, eine verkrustet-gelähmte Gesellschaft und eine politische Führung, die vor tiefgreifenden Reformen zurückscheut, lassen nämlich Frankreich in der Tat in einem erbärmlichen Zustand erscheinen – zumindest dem sehr kritischen Bild nach zu urteilen, das die deutsche Presse vom « Modell Frankreich » zeichnet, das sich den Anforderungen einer globalisierten Welt nicht gewachsen zeigt. Zwar reflektiert die deutsche Presse wirtschaftliche und soziale Kennzahlen Frankreichs, die tatsächlich beunruhigend sind, aber der Spiegel wird auch zum Zerrspiegel wegen der angeschlagenen Tonart, die teils auf die Überzeugung zurückzuführen ist, das bessere Modell zu vertreten, teils auf die Befürchtung, Frankreich könne Europa und somit auch Deutschland mit sich in den Untergang reißen.
